Abstract:

The Department of Biology was established in 1942 and currently offers undergraduate educational programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. This record group includes proposals, memos, surveys, syllabi, evaluations, planning reports, meeting minutes, and meeting agendas for Biology faculty meetings.

Biographical/Historical Note

Biology courses were first offered at Appalachian State Teachers College in 1929, and the Department of Biology was established as its own department in 1942. Currently, the Department of Biology offers undergraduate educational programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Specializations within the B.S. degree program include: Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology; and Science Education.

Scope and Contents

This record group includes proposals, memos, surveys, syllabi, evaluations, planning reports, meeting minutes, and meeting agendas for Biology faculty meetings. Included are copies of proposal requests to establish Advanced Masters Degree Programs at ASU as well as faculty and student surveys on post-tenure faculty, faculty workloads, graduate students, and advising. Files date 1972-2004.
