Appalachian State University makes available a wide range of educational experiences through programs and activities that complement and support the academic experience in the classroom. Although the primary focus of these activities is to advance student learning, they also provide needed services, support, and recreational opportunities to help students meet the challenges of college and to enhance the quality of student life. The Division of Student Development has been organized to help accomplish these aspects of the University's mission. Student life is the focus of the programs and activities of the Division. Student Development originally operated as a department under Student Affairs, but in 1987, with restructuring, the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Development was established. The following departments currently operate within Student Development: Career Development, Center for Student Involvement And Leadership, Child Development Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Diversity Issues, Electronic Student Services, Financial Aid, Health Services, Multicultural Student Development, Off-Campus Community Relations, Office of Student Conduct, Parent and Family Services, Student Programs, University Housing, University Recreation.
