Lectures, Concerts, and Events Audio-Visual Collection contains audiovisual recordings in varying formats, and on a wide variety of subjects, dating 1949-2002. Events and subjects of the recordings include: football, the library, lectures and seminars, musical performances, and other special events, mostly on ASU's campus.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Lectures, Concerts, and Events Audio-Visual Collection highlights special academic and popular programming on Appalachian's campus and ASU's commitment to bringing diverse, culturally invigorating and intellectually stimulating events and people to Boone. Many departments and offices on campus facilitate and sponsor these events, including: A.P.P.S., the Athletic Department, the Plemmons Student Union, the Performing Arts Series, University Archives, the Chancellor's Office, WASU, the Harlan E. Boyles CEO Lecture Series and the Diversity Lecture Series, among others. Media Services (formerly Audiovisual Services) helped to create some of the recordings found in this collection, as they offer audio and visual recording, editing and production services to the ASU faculty, staff and students.

Scope and Contents

The Lectures, Concerts, and Events Audio-Visual Collection contains audiovisual recordings in varying formats, and on a wide variety of subjects, dating 1949-2002. Many of the accessions in this collection include multiple copies of the same video recording, for example on reel-to-reel and on VHS. Subjects of these recordings include: football, homecoming, the Plemmons Student Union, the Appalachian House, fraternities, faculty training, archives, ASU campus and buildings, Impact North Carolina project, John E. Thomas, LGBT issues, and alumni. Additionally, the collection includes both audio and video recording of: musical performances, lectures, a 1949 football game, homecoming festivities, and dedication events.
