Abstract:

The Univesity Archives was founded in 1981 to maintain records of the University that have permanent historical value. This collection consists of CDs containing the master TIFF files from the Appalachiain State University Historical Photographs Digitization Project as well as information on the Appalachian Consortium and personnel files from the University Archives.

Biographical/Historical Note

The Univesity Archives was founded in 1981 to maintain records of the University that have permanent historical value. Materials relate to ASU's departmental files, administrative papers, publications, and photographs. The role of the University Archives is to receive, preserve, and share with the public, primary source material pertaining to Appalachian State University.

Some of the major collections housed within the Archives are the papers of past Presidents such as Dr. William Plemmons and Dr. Herbert Way, as well as the papers of former faculty members, student publications, and the records of the Appalachian Consortium.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains information on the Appalachian Consortium and personnel files from the University Archives. There are CDs containing the master TIFF files from the Appalachiain State University Historical Photographs Digitization Project.

The photographs are those from the University Archives General Picture File, the Brown-Scoggins Collection and the John Pritchett Collection. They include buildings, faculty, staff, general campus, students, student related events, and sports as well as the campus demonstration schools (elementary and high schools) located on campus. Photos of Boone, New River Power and Light, and other areas and facilities connected with Appalachian State University are also included.
